2. Period After Opening (PAO): This symbol indicates how many months the product can be safely used after it has been opened for the first time. For example, “12M” means that the product is safe for twelve months after opening. This period is preceded by the open jar symbol, the most frequent PAOs being 6 months, 24 months and 36 months.
