Weeks 36-37/2024 – Recall ordered for 39 cosmetics and body care products

Market Withdrawal: 30 Cosmetics containing Butylphenyl methylpropional (Lilial) – Chemical risk

The recalled products (11 perfumes, 7 eau de toilette, 5 coloring foams, 3 aftershaves, 2 hair lacquers, some wipes, a facial serum and a shower gel) contain the allergen Butylphenyl methylpropional (Lilial), which has been classified as toxic to reproduction and to the health of the fetus, and may in some cases cause skin sensitization, and all products containing this ingredient in their formulation have been withdrawn from the market.

These products do not comply with the Cosmetic Products Regulation.

Czechia, Hungary, Lithuania and Romania have notified the withdrawal of this product from the market.

 

 

 

 

 

Market withdrawal: 5 Cosmetics with allergenic fragrances – Chemical risk

Perfumes contain allergenic fragrances such as d-limonene, linalool, benzyl alcohol, citronellol, geraniol, hydroxycitronellal, cinnamyl alcohol, hexyl cinnamal and benzyl salicylate. These are substances that can induce allergic reactions and skin sensitization, and they are not indicated in the list of ingredients of the products, so consumers are unaware of their presence.

In addition, one of the perfumes also contains the allergen Butylphenyl methylpropional (Lilial).

These products do not comply with the Cosmetic Products Regulation.

Czechia has notified the withdrawal of these products from the market.

 

 

 

 

 

Market withdrawal: Cosmetic with Selenium Disulfide – Chemical risk

The recalled product (hair paste) has a list of ingredients indicating that it contains Selenium Disulphide, which is banned in certain cosmetic products. Selenium disulfide can damage the reproductive system and the health of the fetus, as well as causing skin sensitization.

This product does not comply with the Cosmetic Products Regulation.

Lithuania has notified the withdrawal of this product from the market.

 

 

 

 

 

Market withdrawal: Cosmetic with Hydroquinone – Chemical risk

The recalled product (body cream) contains Hydroquinone with a measured value of up to 8.1%, which is prohibited in this cosmetic product. Hydroquinone can cause an allergic reaction on the skin and cause serious eye damage.

This product does not comply with the Cosmetic Products Regulation.

Germany has notified the withdrawal of this product from the market.

 

 

 

 

 

Market withdrawal: Cosmetic with a high concentration of Hydrogen Peroxide – Chemical risk

The recalled product (home teeth whitening kit) has an excessive concentration of Hydrogen Peroxide as a whitening substance with a measured value of 0.8 % by weight. Hydrogen Peroxide is harmful if swallowed and can also cause irritation and ulcers when in contact with the skin or mucous membranes.

This product does not comply with the Cosmetic Products Regulation.

France has notified the withdrawal of this product from the market.

 

 

 

 

 

Market withdrawal: Cosmetic with a high concentration of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) – Chemical risk

The recalled product (nail polish kit) contains 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) with a measured value of 51.2% by weight and Hydroquinone methyl ether (mequinol), which are prohibited in consumer nail products. HEMA causes severe eye irritation, skin irritation and can cause an allergic skin reaction. Mequinol is harmful if swallowed, causes severe eye irritation and may cause an allergic skin reaction.

This product does not comply with the Cosmetic Products Regulation.

France has notified the withdrawal of this product from the market.
