Weeks 48-49/2024 – Recall of 147 cosmetics and body care products ordered

Market withdrawal: Cosmetics containing Butylphenyl methylpropional (Lilial) – Chemical risk

The recalled products (50 eau de toilette, 33 perfumes, 7 deodorants, 12 shower gels, 11 moisturizing creams, 6 aftershaves, 2 shampoo bath gels, a liquid soap, a body oil, a shampoo, a shaving cream, an aftersun and a gel) contain the allergen Butylphenyl methylpropional (Lilial), which has been classified as toxic to reproduction and to the health of the unborn child, and may in some cases cause skin sensitization, and all products containing this ingredient in their formulation have been withdrawn from the market.

These products do not comply with the Cosmetic Products Regulation.

Hungary and Italy have notified the withdrawal of these products from the market.

 

 

 

 

 

Market withdrawal: Cosmetics with Butylphenyl methylpropional (Lilial) and Hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde (HICC) – Chemical risk

The recalled products (4 perfumes, 2 body creams, a shower gel and a serum) contain in their list of ingredients the allergens Butylphenyl methylpropional (Lilial) and Hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde (HICC), which are prohibited substances in cosmetic products. Lilial can damage the reproductive system, the health of the fetus and cause skin sensitization. HICC can cause allergic skin reactions.

These products do not comply with the Cosmetic Products Regulation.

Italy has notified the withdrawal of these products from the market.

 

 

 

 

 

Market withdrawal: Cosmetic with excessive concentration of Aerobic Mesophilic Bacteria – Microbiological risk

The recalled product (cleansing gel) contains an excessive level of aerobic mesophilic bacteria, with measured values of up to 490,000 cfu/g. If used on damaged skin or if it comes into contact with the eyes, the product may cause infection or irritation.

This product does not comply with the Cosmetic Products Regulation.

Ireland has notified the withdrawal of this product from the market.

 

 

 

 

 

Market withdrawal: Cosmetics contaminated with Pseudomonas aeruginosa – Health risk

The recalled products (a shower gel, a face mask, a face cream and an eye contour) are microbiologically contaminated with Pseudomonas aeruginosa. If used on damaged skin or if they come into contact with the eyes, the products can cause infections or irritations.

These products do not comply with the Cosmetic Products Regulation.

France and Luxembourg have notified the withdrawal of these products from the market.

 

 

 

 

 

Market withdrawal: Cosmetics that could be mistaken for food – Chemical risk

The recalled products (3 shower gels) can be mistaken for foodstuffs due to their characteristic appearance, shape, color and size. If swallowed, it can cause aspiration pneumonia.

These products do not comply with the Cosmetic Products Regulation.

Estonia has notified the withdrawal of these products from the market.

 

 

 

 

 

Market withdrawal: Cosmetic without label information – Health risk

The recalled product (suntan lotion) does not indicate that the product should be used in combination with a sunscreen. As a result, the user is not protected against UV radiation, increasing the risk of sunburn or skin cancer.

This product does not comply with the Cosmetic Products Regulation.

Spain has notified the withdrawal of this product from the market.

 

 

 

 

 

Market withdrawal: Cosmetic with Perfluorononyl dimethicone – Risk to the environment

The recalled product (lip pencil) contains Perfluorononyl dimethicone, which is a compound related to perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). PFOAs pose a risk to human health and the environment.

This product does not comply with the Cosmetic Products Regulation.

Luxembourg has notified the withdrawal of this product from the market.
