INFARMED monitors cosmetic products for babies and children in Portugal

INFARMED is monitoring cosmetic products in Portugal to ensure that the health of the smallest consumers is protected. 👦👧

In 2023, an inspection was carried out on shampoos for babies and children, targeting the ingredient Butylphenyl Methylpropional, which was banned in cosmetic products after March 2022 due to its classification as a CMR substance (carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic to reproduction). 🤕

57 cosmetic products were analyzed using validated methods to detect the presence of Butylphenyl Methylpropional and to determine the pH of the products. All the products analyzed complied with the legislation, with no detection of the banned ingredient and pH values below 11. 😁

INFARMED will continue to monitor the safety and quality of cosmetic products for children. 🔬
