Market withdrawal: Cosmetics containing 2-(4-tert-butylbenzyl) propionaldehyde (BMHCA) – Chemical risk

The recalled products (perfumes and creams) contain the allergen 2-(4-tert-butylbenzyl) propionaldehyde (BMHCA), which has been classified as toxic to reproduction and to the health of the fetus, and may in some cases cause skin sensitization, and all products containing these ingredients in their formulation have been withdrawn from the market.

These products do not comply with the Cosmetic Products Regulation.

The Netherlands, Estonia and Hungary have notified the withdrawal of these products from the market.

Market withdrawal: Cosmetics with Hydrogen Peroxide – Chemical risk

The products contain an excessive concentration of Hydrogen Peroxide, used as a whitening substance. The teeth whitening pen contains a measured value of 2.5% by weight, while the teeth whitening gel contains a measured value of this ingredient of 6.9% by weight.
Hydrogen Peroxide is harmful to human health if ingested. In contact with the skin or mucous membranes, it can cause irritation and ulcers.

These products do not comply with the Cosmetic Products Regulation.

Norway has notified the withdrawal of these products from the market.

Market Withdrawal: Cosmetic with 2-phenoxyethanol and Mesophilic Bacteria – Chemical and microbiological risk

The product (sunscreen milk) contains an excessive amount of 2-phenoxyethanol, with a measured value of 1.7%.
This substance is hematotoxic, a mild irritant, and can intoxicate and damage the blood and liver.
In addition, the product is microbiologically contaminated with Mesophilic Bacteria, with measured values of 490 CFU/g/ml.
If used on damaged skin or in contact with the eyes, the product may cause infection or irritation.

This product does not comply with the Cosmetic Products Regulation.

Lithuania has notified the withdrawal of these products from the market.
